For so many of us, a safe place to live is something we take for granted but the war has completely changed this for millions of people across Ukraine.
You can help Ukrainians find somewhere to call home in the UK through the government-led Homes for Ukraine programme.
The sponsorship scheme was set up to help displaced Ukrainians find safety in the UK. It simplifies the process for entering the country and allows Ukrainians to live in the UK for up to three years during which time they’re able to work, study and access public services like the NHS.
But before they can apply, Ukrainians first need to have someone willing to sponsor them and offer them a home for at least six months. This is where BHSU comes in, helping to match displaced Ukrainians with British sponsors.

Use this page to let us know you’re interested in sponsoring and hosting displaced Ukrainians. This can be an individual or family.
To help us find the best match between sponsors and Ukrainians, we need to know a bit about you and what you are able to offer. We’ll ask about things like who lives in your home, how many spare rooms you have available and whether you’re happy to welcome pets as well.
We’ll use the information you’ve given us to find the best fit for everyone. Depending on what you’ve told us you are happy with, this may be a family or an individual.
Once you’re happy with the match, either you or the Ukrainians you have agreed to host will apply to the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Ukrainians need to have a nominated host before they submit their application to come to the UK.
Unlike other matching schemes, our help does not end once both parties have agreed to go ahead and apply to the Homes for Ukraine programme.
We’ll be here for you throughout the process and for as long as you have Ukrainians in your home. We can guide you through the application, be on hand as you prepare to welcome guests into your home and help you navigate life together.
Under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, the government will provide you with a monthly ‘thank you’ payment of £350 per month for the first 12 months and £500 per month for the next 12 months. The scheme asks that you host guests for at least 6 months and the payments will continue for up to 2 years, depending on how long you have Ukrainian guests in your home.
