Our mission and impact

No one wants to see lives turned upside down by war or disaster but when the unimaginable happens there is still light to be found in the darkness.

At BHSU, we believe in finding positivity through times of adversity. Our aim is to offer support through hard times and build connections that last long after the time of crisis.

When disaster strikes, the world unites to help those suffering. This outpouring of support connects people across borders and celebrates our collective humanity. But as events disappear from news headlines this support fades. Our aim is to create networks that can support people to rebuild their lives in the months and years after the initial crisis.

BHSU was founded following the outbreak of war in Ukraine. As the conflict rages on, we don’t want Ukrainians to put their lives on hold while they wait for the war to end.

The ultimate hope is for Ukrainians to be able to return home after the end of the war; back to the lives they’ve been pulled away from and reunited with family and friends. Until this is possible, our aim is to make it as easy as possible for Ukrainians to adapt to life in the UK and thrive within their new community. We want Ukrainians to return home at the end of the war with positive new experiences, a higher level of English and lasting connections here in the UK.
